3. What is graphic design and why is it important to communicate visually?
Graphic design is creating an image with pictures and text to try and convey a certain message.  It is important that it can relate to everyone even with a language barrier.
4. What are the elements of design and how are they incorporated into a design? 
The elements of design are: line, shape/form, space, texture, value, and color.  They help enhance and create a design.
5. What is a vector-based design and how is it created?
Vector-based designs are mathematical equations and can be sized and scaled.  They are created by line, shapes, and curves.
6. How is color used efectivley in a graphic design?
Color can be used effectively by using different color schemes.  One of the more common color schemes in complementary.  Complementary colors are red and green, violet and yellow, blue and orange
7. What is a raster-based image and how is it created?
use of geometrical objects such as points, lines, curves, and shapes; it is created using equations
8. How does the manipulation of size and resolution effect digital images?
Making an object larger or smaller puts emphasis on that object.  For your document to be able to be printed, it must have a resolution of 300, but just on the computer screen it only need a resolution of 72.
9. What are the principles of design and how can they be used with a design?
concepts used to arrange the structural elements of a composition; ex: rhythm, figure/ground, repetition; They are used to help convey the message of the design to the viewer

to add emphasis, help catch the viewers eye, and explain your design

--They set up the page how they want it to look using no text or fill-in text

--The creative process; Research, Brainstorm, Sketch, Execute, Critique

--Key developments: alphabets, written languages, cameras, computers, printing press; They helped form the graphic design industry because we use all of those things everyday as graphic designers.

--Web designer, graphic designer, art directer, creative directer, illustrator, photographer; AIGA, PIAG, SPD
15. What is a logotype and how is it created?
a mark used by a company or organization to promote public recognition, it is created by using one or two pantone colors to mix graphics and text
